DMW Automation has over 50 years of experience in designing and building synchronous indexing platforms. Our custom indexing platforms are capable of speeds of anywhere from 10 to 150 parts per minute, depending on the process steps required. Indexing platforms are generally used when:
Indexing often results in a more economical automation solution over continuous-motion in this scenario.
DMW Automation’s indexing platforms can be built around either a rotary or in-line concept. A variable speed motor-driven indexing unit controls the motion. The assembly or packaging requirements determine the choice between rotary and in-line.

A rotary indexing option is chosen when assembly space is at a premium and the number of components fed to the line is limited. This layout provides easy access around the rotary indexing dial. The components are placed and assembled on tools located on the circumference of the dial.
However, when many components are fed to the line, they tend to block access to a rotary platform. In this case, an in-line approach is a better choice.
This automation concept can lend itself to many different applications. DMW has used indexing to feed and orient components, assemble and process a variety of products, dispense liquids and pastes, ultrasonically weld components, test and inspect end products, etc.
DMW Automation will handle every step of an indexing application project from concept to completion. When necessary, we utilize prototyping which allows us to mimic and develop the process steps needed to ensure the final design will meet its required specifications.
DMW Automation personnel will also integrate 3rd party solutions into our indexing platforms for added capability and performance. For example, it is common practice to add labeling systems and inspection and vision cameras to verify proper assembly, or to add printing systems to apply identification or lot number information.
Examples of equipment DMW Automation has made for these types of lines include:
